Hemp Heart Milk vs Oatmilk

In a world where wellness is trending, we’ve become more curious (and rightfully cautious) about what we put in our bodies. That carton of plant milk in your fridge might seem healthy, but a quick glance at the label reveals a different story — oils, gums, preservatives, and added sugars are common in store-bought varieties.

Homemade plant milk — fresher, cleaner, and surprisingly simple to make. And if you're just starting, hemp heart milk and oat milk are two of the easiest, most nourishing options. So I'm going to focus on these bad boys.

I suggest trying both and noticing how your body reacts to each. If you're connected to your body and you can understand how it feels, you will know right away which milk works best for you. If you're curious about learning more, read how to listen to your body and understand what it needs.

The recipes are at the bottom. Click Here

1. Clean Ingredients You Can Control

When you make your own milk, you get to choose exactly what goes in — and what doesn’t. No more worrying about added sugars, “natural flavors,” canola oil, or strange thickeners like carrageenan.

Whether it’s two-ingredient hemp milk (just hemp hearts + water!) or quick-soak oat milk, homemade milk is real food, no fluff. Add-ins like dates, vanilla, cinnamon, or sea salt are totally optional — and customizable to your taste.

2. Major Nutritional Benefits

Both hemp and oats offer some incredible benefits:

Hemp Heart Milk

  • Complete protein source — rare for plants!

  • Rich in omega-3 and omega-6 fatty acids

  • Great source of magnesium, iron, and zinc

  • Naturally low in carbs and sugar

  • Easily digested and allergen-friendly

Oat Milk

  • Naturally sweet and comforting

  • Great source of beta-glucan fiber (good for cholesterol and digestion)

  • Earth-friendly and super sustainable

  • Budget-friendly and accessible

Depending on your needs, one may suit you better, but both are infinitely better for your body than store-bought versions full of filler ingredients.

3. Cost-Effective and Zero-Waste Friendly

Buying premium hemp or oat milk can get pricey — especially the clean, organic brands. Making it at home can cost a fraction of the price. Plus, you can repurpose leftover pulp in smoothies, baking, or homemade granola. Minimal packaging, no plastic bottles, and less food waste? Your wallet and the planet will thank you.

4. It’s Way Easier Than You Think

If the idea of DIY milk sounds intimidating, don’t worry — there’s no fancy equipment or nut milk bags required (especially for hemp milk, which doesn’t even need straining).

You literally just blend the seeds or oats with water, pour into a jar, and chill. That’s it.

5. It Keeps You Connected to Your Food

There’s something grounding about making your own food from scratch — especially something as nourishing as milk. It’s a small, mindful ritual that makes you feel connected, intentional, and empowered in your health choices.

A Little Effort, A Lot of Reward

Making your own hemp or oat milk takes less than 10 minutes, costs pennies, and offers a massive upgrade in taste, health, and sustainability. If you’ve been leaning on store-bought plant milks for convenience, give homemade a try — your body (and taste buds) will notice the difference.
